Quasicritical is an art game that serves as an exploration of the concept of self-organized criticality. Inspired by the transitory nature of critical points in physical systems, the game invites players to navigate a world suspended between two extreme states, where small changes in critical environmental variables lead to dramatic, almost discontinuous shifts in function.
Players will encounter a delicate balance between order and disorder, where the environment goes through a transformative phase transition.
Like the formation of clusters and oriented spins during phase transitions, Quasicritical immerses players in a visually striking world where fractured memories collapse upon them, leaving uninteractable voids in their wake.
As players progress, their once familiar comfort zone undergoes a gradual and unsettling transformation, where the boundaries blur and disturbances of discomfort and disorder encroach upon their space until there is seemingly nowhere else to go.
Gömböç: The gömböc (the character you are playing in the game) (Hungarian: [ˈɡømbøt͡s] GUHM-buhts) is the first known physical example of a class of convex three-dimensional homogeneous bodies, called mono-monostatic, which, when resting on a flat surface have just one stable and one unstable point of equilibrium.
